We've all had the discussion; which gym should I join?  There are limitless options for fitness, both online and on-site, that claim to be the best. Since you're here on SPENGA's website, we're pretty sure you already know who is the best in West Chester! When making this decision, the factors to consider are actually very simple. Read on to find out what 4 things make sense to think about when picking a studio or gym to help you reach your goals.

 

Effectiveness

 

The “big box” gym is loaded with a variety of cardio machines, fitness apparatus and free weights.  Everything you could possibly need to get in shape!  But what do you do with it?  

  • Do you have a plan (and is that plan effective or efficient)?  
  • Are you exercising at the proper intensity?  
  • Is your exercise structured?  
  • Are you tracking progress?  
  • Are you spending adequate time on cardio, strength training, and flexibility?  
  •  Do you get bored?
  •  Are you seeing results?

 

At SPENGA, our signature workouts are 20 minutes of spin, 20 minutes of high-intensity interval training (HIIT), and 20 minutes of yoga, led by an instructor. 

 

  • Our workouts are designed and delivered by fitness professionals who will guide you every step of the way.  There is no guesswork.
  • Our instructors will push you when you need it, and provide with proper form corrections and modifications so you get the most out each session. 
  • We have a “you vs. you” philosophy.  That means you are only competing against your past performance.  Our “sweet spot” in spin represents a customized intensity level specific to each client that allows each ride to be tailored to your fitness level.  We have members who are just beginning their journeys, elite athletes, and everyone in between.  
  • We believe true fitness can only occur when you focus on the 3 areas of fitness:  cardio, strength, flexibility.  SPENGA dedicates equal time to these 3 pillars of fitness.
  • Each session is different!  Our programming never repeats so you won’t experience the plateau effect.

 

Accountability

 

We’ve all done this:  throw your gym bag in the front seat of the car and hope to get your work out in at some point in the day.  Then the excuses come.  I’m tired, I’ll hit snooze one more time and go to the gym after work, I’ll go after dinner, I’ll do twice as much tomorrow, etc.  Then a week goes by…

 

SPENGA is not an open gym, we are appointment-based.  By scheduling your sessions, you are making a reservation to workout and a commitment to show up!  We have a convenient session schedule (7 days per week) with sessions beginning as early as 5am and as late as 6:30pm.  Plan your week and stick to the plan!  We’ve got the rest. 

 

Community

 

The big box has 1000s of members, all doing their own thing.  It can be an intimidating experience for many people which can lead to discouragement.  You deserve to love the space you are in.  

 

SPENGA has a smaller membership of like-minded fitness enthusiasts!  We are an encouraging community, from staff to members.  You are always welcomed and our staff makes it a point to know not only your name, but your goals, motivations, and areas of struggle.  We truly care about everyone who walks in the door!  We have regular social and exercise events to plug you into our vibrant and supportive community of members and staff.  So many great friendships have blossomed within SPENGA!
